Local wind farm plans approved
The McLean County Board approved a plan two weeks ago which could bring up to 223 additional wind turbines to Central Illinois.
There are hopes that work on Bright Stalk Wind Farm in eastern McLean County could begin before the end of the year.
Bright Stalk would spread across 37,800 acres in Lexington, Chenoa and Yates townships. Horizon Wind Energy is the company planning to construct Bright Stalk, which is the same company that already operates the 240 wind turbines of Twin Groves Wind Farm.
The Benefits And Drawbacks Of Wind Turbine Energy Machines
If you have been reading up on Adt customer service, then you could have a good grasp of what is out there on the web. But we have noticed that not all of it can be useful, it just is dependent on your particular needs. Your specific situation will affect what additional areas of investigation you have to consider. There is always much more you can come across and use that will be very helpful to you. This can prove to be a challenge for anyone if you need very unique kinds of information and help. Well, we have done our exploration into Security systems for home, and we feel it will be of good use for you.
Changing wind power into electricity is normally the function of wind turbines. The standard design resembles a miniature windmill on a toll tower. When the wind blows the turbine the blades make the rotor spin and the movement of the rotor makes the generator within the turbine generate power. The generator is a common design composed of magnets and copper wires. This system has been utilized for many years in some other types of generators.
– Wind farm design inspired by school of fish
He and colleagues at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) are identifying energy-related processes in biological systems that may provide insight into new approaches to—in this case—wind energy.
“I became inspired by observations of schooling fish, and the suggestion that there is constructive hydrodynamic interference between the wakes of neighboring fish,” says Dabiri, associate professor of aeronautics and bioengineering at Caltech. “It turns out that many of the same physical principles can be applied to the interaction of vertical-axis wind turbines.”
The biggest challenge with current wind farms is lack of space. The horizontal-axis wind turbines most commonly seen—those with large propellers—require a substantial amount of land to perform properly. “Propeller-style wind turbines suffer in performance as they come in proximity to one another,” says Dabiri.

The world of renewable energy resources: Advantages And Disadvantages of Geothermal Energy
Geothermal energy is derived from beneath the earth’s surface. There are a variety of different thermal resources, each of which creates its own engineering challenge as to the way that the energy can be tapped. In some cases current technologies are not practical or economic for successfully extracting the thermal energy. To all intents and purposes geothermal energies are renewable because the latent quantities of energy are so large we cannot imagine them running out.
Urban Green Energy UGE
The UGE-4K vertical-axis wind turbine, pictured here, is the largest of three models — with 4 kiloWatt, 1kW and 600W output, respectively — from the New York City start-up Urban Green Energy. Vertical-axis turbines are different from traditional wind turbines in that their main axis is perpendicular to the ground. This configuration means they’re not affected by the direction of the wind, which is useful in areas where the wind changes direction frequently or quickly, and so there’s no mechanism needed to turn the turbine toward the wind. The consumer models are simple to install and maintain, says the company, and operation is quiet, with a decibel rating of < 27dB at a three-meter distance.
Of course, one benefit of generating your own electricity is that no only does your co-op or condo save money by using less commercial electricity, but you can even get refunds from your power company by feeding your excess into the grid. Check out the chart below to see how it works. As for purchasing wind turbines, a variety of states offer incentives see the Database of State Incentives for Renewables and Efficiency. As well, financing is available through the GEOSmart program sponsored by the Electric and Gas Industries Association (EGIA) and funded by GE Money. It’s also worth LEED Certification points.
So don’t get caught being a funny-duddy building. Embrace the new. Who’s reachin’ out to capture a moment? Everyone knows it’s windy.
Home Hydrogen Fueling Stations
Home Hydrogen Fueling Stations
Imagine in the future, driving your hydrogen car into your garage and gassing it up with your very own home hydrogen fueling station. Sounds pretty out there, doesn’t it? But, as far off as it sounds, there are people right now working to make this concept a reality.
Take for instance Honda Motor Company, which has developed the Home Energy Station III that not only refuels a hydrogen car such as the Honda FCX, but it can also power a home as well. The Home Energy Station III uses natural gas and an onboard reformer to separate out the hydrogen for refueling the car. In order to create energy, it runs the hydrogen through a fuel cell and can thus generate power for a home as well.
Bill Gates: Energy Visionary? (energy Manhattan project, yet again) — MasterResource
“If America can put a man on the moon, why should we stay in servitude to the first and second laws of thermodynamics? What we plainly need is a Manhattan Project–like the one that gave us the atomic bomb but not like the one that narrowly missed finding a cure for cancer.”

KSK Energy Ventures to procure 250MW wind turbines from Shanghai Electric-China
KSK Energy Ventures, India was started in February 2001 to exploit emerging opportunities in the Indian power sector and have since focused its strategy on the private sector power development market, undertaking entire gamut of development, investment, construction, operation and maintenance of power plants with supplies initially to heavy industrials operating in India and now branching out to cater to the needs of utilities and others in the wider Indian power sector.
Panchabuta had earlier mentioned that the company intends to procure 250 MW of wind turbines from Dongfang Electric Corporation Ltd of China. The companies were to sign a contract on December 15, 2010 in New Delhi during the visit of the Chinese Prime Minister, Mr Wen Jiaban, to India. The contract was since signed according to this report. The report further adds that the Hyderabad-based company plans to increase its wind power capacity almost six-fold to 300 megawatts by 2011 from 52 megawatts currently.
